Custom cakes are often ‘measured in sizes’ (eg. 6 inch/8inch) and not weight, this is because for a similar cake of the same size it can weigh a lot differently due to its design.
*(Example: a 6 inch cake may weigh 1kg for one design and 3kg for another design.)
Hence it is often better to go by serving size instead of weight for designer cakes.
Custom designer cakes’s designs and decorations tend to be heavy or heavier.
They also often needs to be left out for display before the cake cutting ceremony.
Hence, cakes such as mousse cakes are not suitable/recommended/ideal for these
designer cakes. The moisture in the mousse would also cause the fondant sugar to
dissolve leaving a gooey layer of sticky liquid and potentially causing the fondant to sag.
Unlike fresh cream cakes or mousse cakes which needs to be kept chilled at all times, buttercream or fondant frosted cakes can sit out at air conditioned or cool room temperature for a few hours.
Pound/Mud Cakes are butter-based type of cake which are packed with premium ingredients that are rich, dense and decadent.
As they are denser in structure, they are more stable and can better uphold the works, decorations and shapes of custom designer cakes.
Sculptural elements and figurines may contain wire supports or toothpicks or wooden skewers for support. Please check the placement of these items before serving to small children.
It is stable and best displayed in cold air-conditioned room for about 18ยฐC (up to 4 hours) before the cutting ceremony.
*This duration varies with the conditions of the weather, temperature, humidity.
If it has been kept in the fridge (chiller), please take it out and leave it out for about 30 minutes to an hour (or until the cream is soft) before consumption. Please do not freeze the cake. For best taste, the buttercream or fondant surface should be soft to touch.
They are best eaten at room temperature on the day of purchase, as they are less in sugar with no preservatives. Leftovers can be kept refrigerated in an air-tight container for up to 2 to 3 days for freshness.
